Procurement

The order is not the beginning of the chain.

Installation readiness depends on earlier information and decisions as well as delivery.

Procurement

Work backward from the installation condition

Identify what must be true before the package can be installed. This may include approved design information, completed predecessor work, access, lifting arrangements and material receipt. Ask the relevant team to confirm the conditions. A delivery milestone does not explain whether the workface will be ready when the item arrives.

Expose the releases that matter

Discuss submittal preparation, review, release for manufacture, production, testing where required, shipping and receipt. Not every package needs the same sequence. Distinguish supplier commitments from planning allowances, and identify the decisions that release the next step. A single procurement bar can conceal approvals that the project needs to manage separately.

Keep procurement in the live forecast

Review current supplier information alongside work-area readiness during updates. If a release slips, examine the affected installation sequence rather than only changing an isolated delivery date. Record the source of material forecast revisions. Procurement coordination becomes more useful when the next approval or release has an owner before the final arrival becomes urgent.

Bring it to the next conversation.

  • Define installation readiness.
  • Identify the next information release.
  • Reconcile supplier dates with site conditions.
